Today:

Over 100 teams make up Leisure Marching in New Zealand with well over 1000 marchers. Teams are of "mature" ladies and meet at various events hosted by local teams throughout the country for a day of: a march past parade, individual team routines winding up with a serpentine or maze march with all teams on the floor. Teams can be formed by any number of keen people for marching, fitness, friendship and fun. It is non competitive.

There is no National Body. Hosting of the major events - North Island, South Island and the Nationals are decided by delegates from each team.

What's Going On:

.

Facebook

20 Years since Leisure Marching Started

N.Z. Originals, now in recess (formerly Marching Grans), hosted a luncheon in April, to celebrate 20 years since Leisure Marching was founded by Audrey Rodgers in Tauranga.

Former members of the team gathered, along with 2 invited members from the other Tauranga Teams. An official cake was cut by Audrey and several photo albums and boards brought back many memories of the 20 years.

Marching Uniforms

Can any teams make recommendations where uniforms can be made/obtained. Enquires are received for this info from time to time.

http://www.knitsenzed.co.nz has been suggested for material.
(Fabric used by Kapiti Gold Coasters was Supa Sport 4305/L29 - 100% polyester used by many teams over last 5 years).

Have a look at:  http://www.lawnchairdads.com/index.asp a USA site of The Precision Lawn Chair Marching Dads, a group of Illinois businessmen that get together on a normal basis to entertain parade goers and get some exercise. The Photo Gallery is great.
